Black Label hot dog topped with Kaluga caviar, cooked over a campfire at Menizei on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula near Olympic National Park.

Campfire Gastronomy

Fire-forward nourishment. No reservations required. Campfire Gastronomy is an optional, fire-ready nourishment experience designed to support shared meals without pulling you into a kitchen—or out of the forest.

At Menizei, Campfire Gastronomy treats food as part of presence rather than production. There is no dining room, no chef presentation and no performance. Instead, thoughtfully prepared ingredients meet open flame, simple tools and unhurried pacing. This isn’t restaurant service. It’s nourishment designed to belong outdoors—prepared slowly, shared easily and enjoyed without distraction.

THE FRAMEWORK

Campfire Gastronomy is guided by three principles:

01

Fire-Based Cooking

Cooking over flame slows the process, anchors attention and naturally invites participation rather than efficiency.

02

Shared Preparation

Simple, collaborative cooking supports conversation and rhythm—without requiring skill or planning.

03

Reduced Cognitive Load

By removing shopping, prep and cleanup logistics, Campfire Gastronomy preserves mental space for connection.

Together, these elements shift meals from task to experience

Why Place Matters

Campfire Gastronomy works because of where it’s held. Menizei’s coastal forest setting—cool air, steady light and quiet surroundings—creates ideal conditions for fire-based cooking with meals as unhurried as the conversation.

FAQ

What is Campfire Gastronomy?

Campfire Gastronomy is Menizei’s approach to cooking over fire—elevated, intentional and self-guided. Each offering is designed to be prepared and enjoyed at your own pace, turning the campfire into a shared ritual rather than a task.

Is this a restaurant-style meal or a cooking experience?

Neither. There’s no service and no performance. Campfire Gastronomy is about participation—simple, thoughtful preparation that invites presence and slows the evening down.

Do we cook the food ourselves?

Yes, but without pressure. Everything arrives campfire-ready, with minimal steps and no guesswork. You decide how involved you want to be.

Which offerings require a campfire?

Not every Campfire Gastronomy offering requires a fire. While the experience is designed to feel at home beside open flame, most items can be enjoyed without lighting one. The only exception is the hot dogs, which are intended to be lightly charred over the fire. Everything else is prepared to be flexible, whether you choose to build a flame or simply savor the setting as it is.

What if we don’t want to build a fire?

No problem. Several Campfire Gastronomy options are designed to be enjoyed without lighting a fire, making them ideal for quieter evenings or first nights in.

When do guests typically enjoy Campfire Gastronomy?

Most couples enjoy Campfire Gastronomy in the early evening, as daylight fades and conversation naturally slows—but there’s no set timing. Breakfast offerings are often enjoyed the following morning.

Can offerings be combined or enjoyed over multiple nights?

Absolutely. For couples who don't want to leave their cocoon, many layer Campfire Gastronomy across their stay—something simple one night, somehing more indulgent the next.

When do we select Campfire Gastronomy?

Selections are made in advance during checkout so everything can be prepared ahead of your arrival. Availability is limited, and offerings are not guaranteed once on site.
